Manual Therapy

Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapy is an important component of a Physiotherapist's rehabilitation plan. In order to decrease pain and improve function of the joints and muscle, manipulation is required. This is done through a range of specialized techniques such as:

  •     Soft Tissue Release Technique (STRT): this form of manual physical therapy will help relieve tight and sore muscles by putting them under pressure while actively stretching them at the same time.
  •     Soft Tissue Work: this form of physical therapy includes gentle massage, or frictional massage and stretching, to break up scar tissue and adhesions. It will also help increase circulation and help restore pain free function.
  •     Mobilization & Manipulation: this form of physical therapy uses direct pressure on stiff and painful joints. This helps move the joint and all the surrounding soft tissue which improves alignment and flexibility, and helps reduce pain.

Manual physical therapy, in addition to other physiotherapy modalities such as electrotherapy, heat/cold, exercise prescription, and education, are all used to address and improve physical function. Each treatment plan is an alliance between patient and therapist, and is specifically customized for your condition.
